Jonathan Prince Studio is excited to announce the premier of the new work Fissure during the 2024 Venice Biennale. The work will be featured in The Contours of Otherness at the Jewish Museum of Venice, opening April 21, 2024. The exhibition looks at themes of migration and the richness sparked by interaction with diversity. Featuring 10 international artists, the exhibition will span three unique spaces in the city’s 16th century ghetto. Prince’s work can be found in the Spazio Ikona.
“My work Fissure (2024) looks at two topographies, two mountain ranges, split by a gulf between them, but from the same block, the same earth, the same people”.
- Jonathan Prince
Fissure explores the notion of separation from the self and the fracturing of identity through movement. A solid cube erodes down the middle, it creates a chasm representing the internal gulf often left through the processes of migration and to the division of families, cultures, geographic and social ties. The work attests to the brutal and corrosive change which occurs to individuals and people during migratory experiences.
