The Wave Form series translates the dynamic and ever-changing topography of the ocean’s surface into sculptural form. Working with precise data provided by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and NASA, Jonathan Prince renders the ephemeral movements of water into the enduring medium of stainless steel. Meteorological and oceanographic phenomena, winds, currents, and atmospheric shifts, are captured and materialized, giving physical permanence to forces that are typically transient and fluid.

This collaboration reunites Prince with NOAA and NASA, institutions with which he previously worked on the Hologlobe Project for the Smithsonian Institution. The partnership underscores a dialogue between art and science, positioning these works at the intersection of aesthetic inquiry and empirical observation. As Prince notes, “The connection to NOAA and NASA is important to me, as I have a strong sense that the work will resonate with the scientific community as well as the art world and attract attention to the beauty and importance of our oceans.”

Through Wave Form, the artist invites viewers to contemplate the ocean not only as a subject of scientific study but as a site of profound visual and ecological significance, transforming data into a tactile, reflective landscape.
