The Flow State series explores the psychological and philosophical dimensions of heightened focused consciousness, a state in which an individual becomes fully absorbed in an activity, often losing awareness of time, external stimuli, and self-consciousness. Jonathan Prince approaches this concept through a sculptural language that contrasts Euclidean geometry with more organic, unstructured forms.

In Prince’s work, Euclidean geometric forms operate as metaphors for the human ego, the perfected façades through which we construct and present our identities. Within the flow state, however, these ego-bound structures dissolve. Translating this phenomenon into material terms, Prince allows the geometric forms to disintegrate, revealing the raw, internal configurations that lie beneath.

Through this process, Flow State articulates a movement from the external to the internal, from rigidity to fluidity, from self-conscious control to immersive presence. The series invites viewers to contemplate not only the nature of creative absorption but also the deeper psychological transformations that occur when the ego recedes and unmediated experience takes precedence.
