Jonathan Prince is an American artist renowned for his large-scale sculptures in steel and granite. With studios in Brussels, Belgium, and a state-of-the-art studio in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, Prince creates works reflecting his wide-ranging interests in science, technology, and spirituality. His pieces, often monumental, represent a continuous exploration of material, form, and scale. Often characterized by sharp contrasts between oxidized CorTen steel and mirror-polished stainless steel, his works explore the tension between perfected geometries and chaotic breaks, reflecting the dualities inherent in life. Born in New York City, Prince's artistic journey began at age 12 when he apprenticed with French-American cubist sculptor Jacques Lipchitz. This early experience of transforming matter into meaning has stayed with him throughout his diverse career. Prince began as a maxillofacial surgeon, then transitioned to film production and next as founder and chairman of a venture backed media technology company. Returning to sculpture in 2002, he established a world-class art fabrication facility at his Berkshires home and studio. His artistic practice explores the complex intersections of science, technology, and spirituality, examining the tensions between precision and imperfection. Through bold juxtapositions, oxidized CorTen steel against polished stainless steel, or geometric forms fractured to reveal unpredictable cores, Prince articulates the profound dualities inherent in contemporary existence. Over the past decades, his sculptures have been exhibited in major public and private collections around the world, positioning him as a significant figure in contemporary sculpture. His large-scale works challenge conventional perceptions of material and form, merging industrial rigor with organic spontaneity. Prince's practice reveals a philosophical narrative that invites viewers to contemplate impermanence, transformation, and the evolving language of form. His work has been exhibited in multiple public spaces, including two shows at Christie's Sculpture Garden, 590 Madison Avenue Sculpture Garden, Pier 64 Hudson River Park, and Dag Hammarskjold Plaza. Additionally, his work has been acquired for both private and public collections, including the Eli and Edith Broad Museum at MSU, the Joseph M.
